Dooars is a beautiful region situated in the foothills of the Himalayas. Dooars is known as the gateway to Bhutan as it has 18 passages. The name of the region 'Dooars' is derived from the word 'doors' or ‘Dwar’ as the region is the gateway to north-east India and Bhutan. Dooars region is famous in West Bengal as it is known for its biodiversity which attracts a large number of tourists. Bodo, Rava, Mech, and Toto are the four main tribes of the Dooars region who celebrate different kinds of festivals and practices elegant culture and tradition.
Gorumara National Park is the famous tourist attraction of Dooars region which got the Indian National Park status on 31st January 1994. Gorumara National Park is located 98 km away from Jaigaon, the land of this area is fertile and the presence of wild animals and species are enormous. Animals like Bengal tigers, gaur, sloth bear, barking deer, chital and wild boar can be seen at this national park.
Jaldapara National Park is another popular national park of Dooars which is immensely covered with tall elephant grasses. Jaldapara National Park got the status of the national park from the government of India in 2012. Jungle safari in jeep and elephant ride is very popular here at Jaldapara National Park.
Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is known for the large population of elephants. It is established close to Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary got the status of a wildlife sanctuary in 1998. Since then this area has been working on the preservation and conservation of wild animals.
Murti is a small town of Dooars region which is known as one of the most popular tourist and picnic destination. It is like the main centre for tourist as many national parks and wildlife sanctuaries can be reached from Murti. Murti River is the famous attraction for tourist in this destination.
